Each day for 21 days, leading up to the 2016 Batcave Masters major pinball tournament to be held May 13th-15th, we will take a look at one of the players competing for top honours in this prestigious event. Who will be the next player spotlight out of the 60 players competing? Find out tomorrow!
13 of 21 - Paul Reid
A giant of a man, Paul makes this trophy look tiny. Photo by the Australian Pinball League.
Region: Maroubra NSW
Australian Rank: 27th
Years Competing: 2
Best Result: 4th place - 2015 Pinball HQ Marathon (62 players)
Average Finishing Position: 6th
2015 Batcave Masters Placing: 30th
Monkey on his Back: Pat Nichols, Sydney NSW (22 wins against, 48 losses)
Notes: There’s something about builders, Coogee, and pinball it would seem. As along with Jack Hutchinson who we looked at in spotlight 12, Paul also cut his teeth at the Pinball HQ League held at Coogee Diggers Club each week, and is also in the builders game. Unlike Jack however, Paul is still based in Sydney and still predominately attends this long running eastern suburbs league event, and doing pretty well too - he’s won eight of them, and come second too many times to mention. Besides league placings, Paul has also finished well in large tournaments such as 4th place in both the 2014 and 2015 Pinball HQ Marathons, and a 2nd place in the NSW State Final of the Timezone Supanova Pinball Championship. Not just a keen player and competitor, Paul is known to have one of the nicest collections in the region, and has recently moved into operating his machines too, including locations such as City Heroes in Sydney CBD. A very proud father as well, his six year old son Kerby recently won the under ten category at the 2016 Pinball HQ Marathon. A knack for the silver ball obviously runs in the family!
