Each day for 21 days, leading up to the 2016 Batcave Masters major pinball tournament to be held May 13th-15th, we will take a look at one of the players competing for top honours in this prestigious event. Who will be the next player spotlight out of the 60 players competing? Find out tomorrow!
8 of 21 - Paul Jones
Paul plays with incredible focus, as captured here by Matthew Venables during our first player feature photo shoot.
Region: Wollongong NSW
Australian Rank: 8th
Years Competing: 3
Best Result: 1st place - 2015 IFPA Australian Championship Series (32 players)
Average Finishing Position: 4th
2015 Batcave Masters Placing: 12th
Monkey on his Back: David Peck, Auckland NZ (2 wins against, 4 losses)
Notes: One of a number of very skilled players that have surfaced out of the Pinball HQ Pinball League based in Coogee, Paul has quickly become one of Australia’s most accomplished competitors. Having finished 2nd place at the 2013 Newcastle Pinfest tournament, Paul has gone from strength to strength since, including a 1st place in the 2015 Batcave Masters Side Tournament, 2nd place at the 2014 IFPA Australian Championship Series, 2nd place at the 2016 Pinball HQ Marathon, and of course winning the big one at the 2015 IFPA Australian Championship Series. With these placings and many others, Paul has an incredibly impressive average finishing placing of 4th, and is rated 23rd in the world in the IFPA player vs player metric (the second highest rated player in Australia behind Peter Watt). With such great and quick success, you might not expect Paul to be an easy going guy and so easily approachable, but he is. He was also nice enough to take part in the first Player Feature for gamethesystem.co, and you can catch a further glimpse into that right here.
