New Zealand Kiwi Pincade 2017

Welcome to Kiwi Pincade! This will be the 10th anniversary of this successful and enjoyable event so I hope you can make it here for a good time.

Recently Pincade has had 3 days in Auckland preceded by a day alternating between Christchurch and Wellington. Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control, Wellington will not host next year so the entire 4 days will be held in Auckland. We have the number of venues to support this and the rush between cities will be avoided so swings and roundabouts.

The following things are set in concrete:

1. Starts 1pm Thursday 2nd March in Auckland and finishes late on Sunday 5th March 2017.

2. We have many great gamesrooms in Auckland and we will showcase these as we progress. We usually visit around 2 to 4 gamesrooms a day.

3. We travel to different people's places but locked in for sure will be the World System 11 Championship at rotordave's place on Sunday 5th March (all day).

4. I try to arrange transport & accommodation but lately I have been overwhelmed. Requests outnumber resources. If you can share accommodation & rental cars, that would be appreciated but I will help out as best I can. If you want to catch the red eye flight into or out of Auckland, you may have to arrange your own transport.

5. This thread gets rather long over the next few months so for newcomers, I will update any new information in this initial box.

6. There will be a charge to attend like last year. Bronze, Silver and Gold. This helps pay for venue costs, trophies, lanyards and name tags etc. We haven't finalized prices yet as we are working on an anniversary T shirt. Don't worry, you won't be scalped, we're running this on a social basis. I will not accept any Pincade money until 5th Jan 2017. There will be a late fee charged from 23rd Feb. Details to follow.

7. I will raffle off a pinball machine. This will be limited to 100 tickets. Ticket price will depend on the pinball. If the lucky owner doesn't want it, it will be followed by an auction.

8. I get deluged by emails so to separate my AA mail from my Pincade mail, please contact me on kiwipincade@gmail.com for this. Of course, I'm happy to answer any questions posted on this thread (which may help others as well).

9. We will hold some IFPA sanctioned comps throughout the weekend. Not every day but enough to keep people interested.

10. Last Pincade was a record year with 150 attendees including 31 from overseas. I expect more next year.

11. I would appreciate comments from past attendees about what we can do better and what the things they really enjoyed about Pincade.

Full details and registration can be found at the Aussie Arcade thread here: http://www.aussiearcade.com/showthread.php/82846-KIWI-PINCADE-Part-10-NEW-ZEALAND-(2nd-5th-March-2017)

IFPA Australian Championship Series Final

  • Google Calendar ICS

The race for the 2016-17 ACS is over! The standings can be viewed here: https://www.ifpapinball.com/rankings...iew.php?id=152

These standings are now final, as is the list of competitors.

12 players advised that they won't be attending. We had to go down to #44 in the standings to fill the 32 tournament places.

Here's the tournament info (reposted from the format discussion thread):

The 2016-17 Australian Championship Series Final will be held at the Thornbury Bowls Club, 27 Ballantyne St, Thornbury VIC 3071.

It's a short walk to High St cafes, the St Georges Motor Inn, route 11 and 86 trams, and Thornbury station on the South Morang train line.

The following tournaments are confirmed:
Thursday 9 February, 7pm-11pm: Flip Frenzy tournament. All welcome. $20 entry.
Friday 10 February, 6:30pm-midnight: Strikes tournament. All welcome. $15 entry.
Saturday 11 February, 10am-10pm; Sunday 12 February, 10am-6pm: Australian Championship Series. Restricted to 32 players, based on 2016 ACS standings. $60 entry.

Payment can be made via either direct deposit or PayPal. Ensure to include your name as a comment/reference so that we can track your payment. Please pay in advance for all of the tournaments you plan to attend: I expect both the Thursday and Friday night events to reach capacity.

We're also planning to run a split-flipper tournament on the Saturday night. I had also mentioned the possibility of holding a pump-and-dump comp on Friday and Saturday, but this is looking increasingly unfeasible.

The Flip Frenzy on the Thursday will use the popular loser-stays-on-until-they've-lost-two-in-a-row format. It will run for 3.5 hours.

The Strikes tournament on Friday will consist of 4-player matches. Players who finish 3rd and 4th in a match will get a strike. Players will be eliminated after receiving 2 strikes.

The ACS Final itself will follow the rules published here: https://www.ifpapinball.com/acs/rules/

Coogee Flip Frenzy

COOGEE FLIP FRENZY – SUNDAY, OCT 16, 1PM TO 4:30PM

Approved by Coogee Diggers, the Coogee Flip Frenzy will be held on Sunday, October 16. Number of players suggested that Saturday is a better day but unfortunately Saturdays are heavily booked out for other events.

We also changed the timing, starting the competition at 1PM so everyone has time to have lunch before the competition starts. This is a fast paced, fun format competition where the players need to be ready when it is their turn to play.

This format minimizes the (boring) waiting time, maximizes the number of games each player plays. Players also play different machines and different people most of the time.

There will be a limit of the number of the players in this comp, in our case 40. This is dictated by the number of machines we have available, all 15 machines will be used.

Each game is a two player game. Scores are not recorded, only a WIN and LOSS. I talked to Luke in Melbourne who ran this competition before and asked him to provide me with a concise description of the format.

At the start a random draw assigns two players to each machine. The remaining players are placed in one central queue.

When a game is completed:

- The loser stays on the same machine, unless he has lost twice in a row, in which case the winner stays on.

- The player leaving the machine moves to the back of the queue.

- The player staying on the machine plays in the same position (P1/P2) as he played in the previous game.

- The player at the front of the queue moves up to play the player staying on.

At the end of three hours (or 3.5 hours in our case) , no more games may start. The winner is the player with the most games won. Ties are broken by fewest losses.

More info will be available as soon as we can locked it in. There will be a flat fee to enter the competition and the machines will be set on free game.

There are two side events: the under-16s Greg Berry Junior Cup on Sunday morning, and a three-and-a-half hour Flip Frenzy on Friday night.

Machines will be available to play on Friday, and a one-hour free practice session will be held from 11:00am on Saturday. No practice or warm-up time will be allowed during the tournaments.

FYI for those travelling from afar and wanting to return home on Sunday night: the finals for the main event will be over by 6:00pm.

$15 to enter. 100% of entry fees awarded as prizes.

3.5 hours of non-stop head-to-head pinball!

First, each machine is randomly assigned two players. The remaining players are placed in one central queue.

When a game is completed:

- The loser stays on the same machine, unless he has lost twice consecutively, in which case the winner stays on.

- The player leaving the machine moves to the back of the queue.

- The player staying on the machine plays in the same position (P1/P2) as he played in the previous game.

- The player at the front of the queue moves up to play the player staying on.

At the end of 3.5 hours, no more games may start. The winner is the player with the most games won. Ties are broken by fewest losses.

MELBOURNE MATCHPLAY - Saturday 8 October, 12:00pm

$40 to enter. 100% of entry fees awarded as prizes.

7 rounds of matchplay, in randomly assigned 4-player groups.

ADELAIDE: Amusement Worx All Day Pinball Competition

Amusement Worx All Day Pinball Competition

The fourth comp I am co-ordinating at Amusement Worx for 2016 is an all-day and evening comp on Saturday June 18.

Hopefully this should be BIG!

All the comp information is on the IFPA calendar and also on the Amusement Worx Facebook page and I am including the info in the Aussie Arcade forum HERE.

Warm-up starts at 10.30am and the comp itself is starting at 11.30am. We hope to wrap it up by 11pm at the latest.

PLEASE NOTE: For this tournament we will require players to PRE-register for entry. No payment is required up front, but as dinner is being supplied an idea of numbers is needed.

To register, players will need to either ring Amusement Worx on 82417370 or ring/text Paul or private message him via this forum (pinballcreature).

At this stage numbers will be limited to 40 on a first come first in basis, so get in quick. Since the tournie was posted on the Amusement Worx Facebook page Thursday evening, 18 places have been taken already. Make that 20. Since I started doing this thread, 2 more spots taken.

Also of importance is the fact that due to a number of requests, I will NOT be listing attendees in this forum or on the Amusement Worx Facebook page due to security concerns for people leaving their houses for the whole day.

This creates a bit more hassle for me in that if we reach the maximum number of players I will need to contact players to make certain they are coming and then create a standby list. I would be thrilled to have to do this!!

The machines are fully serviced before the comp and as with all Amusement Worx comps there will be a tech on site in case there are any problems with machines during the night.

Any questions at all let me know and I will get back to you asap.

Hope to see you there so we can keep pinball growing here in Adelaide.

ALSO: Along with our - now regular - comps, I will probably be running a Selfie League comp later in the year, so keep a look out for the announcement.

Paul

BTW; I still love cut and paste!!!!!

DATE:
Saturday June 18th.

ENTRY FEE: $45. This INCLUDES a "sausage sizzle" dinner.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
1. Final registration and warm up 10.30am - 11.15am sharp.
2. Information and questions from players 11.15am - 11.30am.
3. Main Tournament qualifying: 11.30am - 6pm.
Finals 7pm - 11pm.
Consolation Tournament for those players who don't qualify for finals: 7pm - 11pm.
4. We are running one main comp on the day.
5. There will be the option of a single 2 strike out knockout consolation comp for those who don't qualify for the main tournament finals. Please note that the consolation comp cannot be for IFPA points. It is not allowed.
6. There will probably be about 12 machines in use on the day.
7. Simon is not obliged to tell players which machines will be used prior to the competition day.
8. On the day players should have their IFPA # ready, to save time. Just Google IFPA and your name to get your # if you have one.
9. There are now about 40 rated players in Adelaide so the points on offer should be good.
10. There is no discounted entry fee for players who don't want dinner!
11. Simon is bringing in a drinks machine (water and soft drinks) for the day.
12. For players who want more practice they can attend the Friday lock-ins at Amusement Worx. Check dates on the A Worx Facebook page.
13. There will be prizes for this comp. At this stage TBA!

MAIN TOURNAMENT

TGP: Minimum of 16.

QUALIFYING:
- Probably using Matchplay or Scott Danesi software.
- Depending on numbers there will be 6-8 machines set to no extra balls/ball savers on incl. multiball.
- Each player plays one game on each machine and will be ranked on each machine and awarded points. The highest score gets the highest score down to the lowest getting the lowest point score.
- The points for each of the six machines will be totalled for ranking.
- 50% of the qualifying field up to a maximum of 16 players will qualify for the finals.
- In qualifying players will need to play in pairs or triples if odd number of players to verify each others' scores (initial their score sheet).
- To save time, as soon as players finish and verify scores on a game, Simon will enter scores before the players go onto their next game.

FINALS:
- Using Matchplay software.
- Single elimination best of three games (this may be best of five depending on how long qualifying takes) on different machines.
- The higher ranked qualifier for game one of each best of three has the choice of either: machine played OR going first or second.

CONSOLATION TOURNAMENT NOT FOR IFPA POINTS

Two strike knockout
- Seeding: IFPA
- First round pairing: Slaughter - highest seed plays lowest seed
- General pairing: Balanced - Players will be randomly paired with previously unfaced opponents
- Player order: Original seed - higher seed chooses player order
- Arena draws: Balanced - computer tries to allocate arenas that have been played the fewest times
- Number of strikes: Two
- Value of byes: Full win
- Allocation of byes if needed: Random

- For each round in each comp you will be allocated an opponent and a machine to play one game on. Whoever loses that game has one strike. You stay in the comp until you lose two matches (two strikes). With this format you get a second chance.
- Simon reserves the right to change the format. For example: to make the competition go faster he may change the arena draw to manual to save time if machines are vacant. But the knockout format is what we will run by.

- PLEASE NOTE: at this stage, the consolation tournie will use machines that are not being used for the finals of the main tournie. It is far too difficult to have two comps using the same machines. This may be subject to change.

Note: Matchplay software can also be used to submit your score and selfie. A link will be added shortly.

For Supa Putt add a detailed description of any issues to the page comments here and Edy will endeavour to assist as time permits.

Worst case use the rule "Play it as it lies", we are not playing for sheep stations, there is no prize money, just a regular helping of IFPA points for those who are keen and some pinball fun.

If you're headed to one or both sites at a particular time add a post to the comments, someone may join you for some games.

Any questions, ask below and I will update this post accordingly.

Hope to see all the Newie players get involved and support your local ops!!!

MELBOURNE: Good Beer Week Pinball Extravaganza

Good Beer Week Pinball Extravaganza

Back for the second year running, Jimmy Nails, LCM, Cashbox Amusements, Mountain Goat Brewing and the Peacock Inn Hotel bring you the 2016 Good Beer Week Pinball Extravaganza.

Three awesome events across three days. There will be 12 machines on site from the 16th for people to practice on. It was a cracking week last year so don't hesitate in securing your spots for pin-golf on the Saturday.

Thursday the 19th of May from 7pm FREE ENTRY - No need to pre-register, just be early - max 32 players
Format Type: Three Strikes
Players are randomly drawn to play 2-player single match games. Loser gets a strike, three strikes and you're out, last player standing wins.

Mountain Goat beers and merch for the winners.

Friday the 20th from 7pm FREE ENTRY No need to pre-register, just be early - max 32 players
Format Type: "Pinball! Pinball! Pinball!" (as used in the annual tournament at Neverland in Tokyo)
Head-to-head match play on few enough machines that there's 5 or 6 players waiting in a queue to play. At the end of each game, the winner gets one point. The loser stays at the game unless they've lost twice in a row, in which case the winner stays. The player staying on the game plays in the same position (1up/2up) as they were already. First person from the queue comes and plays that player, the person that left the game goes to the back of the queue and records the win and loss on a master list. At the end of 3 hours, no more games may start. Most wins wins, ties broken by fewest losses.

Mountain Goat beers and merch for the winners.

Saturday the 21st from 10am - $50 INCLUDES T-SHIRT - max 48 players
Format Type: Pin-Golf

12 holes of pin-golf, on 12 different machines. Top 16 advance to finals. Finals consist of 4-player groups playing 3 holes, with 2 players advancing from each group (lowest total pin-score from 3 holes). Ties broken by qualifying score, then countback (lowest score on highest-numbered hole).
Players must pre-pay and pre-register with Jimmy or Luke via AA or jimmynailspinball@gmail.com
Big cash prizes plus Mountain Goat beers and merch for the winners.

Location: The Peacock Inn Hotel ? 210 High St Northcote Victoria. Home of the mighty Peacock Inn Pinball All Stars.

Great weekend to be in Melbourne as GABS is running, one of the world great beer festivals. The Peacock will be an amazing host as usual with well-priced meals and Mountain Goat cans on special all weekend. I think last year we knocked off over 30 cases .
